Assetto Corsa EVO — Full breakdown of update 0.6.3
Kunos Simulazioni has released update 0.6.3 for Assetto Corsa EVO, a consolidation patch that addresses several critical areas: stability, bug fixing, simulation refinements, and a high-quality audio overhaul for two of the roster's most popular cars. A compact but dense update, once again demonstrating the team's commitment to responding swiftly to issues raised by the community.
One important note upfront: the Dedicated Server application has been updated alongside the game itself. Server administrators are strongly encouraged to update without delay. It is essential to be aware that the updated server is backwards compatible — it can handle clients running older versions — but it is not forwards compatible, meaning server and game clients must be aligned on the same version to ensure online sessions run correctly.
Stability and crash fixes: a top priority
The most substantial part of the changelog concerns overall title stability, with a series of targeted interventions aimed at eliminating crash scenarios that could affect players at various points during their experience.
A possible fix has been implemented for a startup crash linked to the game's attempt to delete old log files. A similar issue at startup, caused by the shared memory writer, has also been addressed with a dedicated fix.
The penalty manager — the system responsible for handling penalties during race sessions — was responsible for another category of crash, now resolved. Additional protections have simultaneously been added for potential crashes during penalty assignment itself, further safeguarding stability during active races.
A highly anticipated fix concerns AMD GPU users: a specific issue prevented the game from launching correctly when DLSS had been selected as the upscaling option. This has now been resolved, allowing this group of users to access the simulator without having to manually adjust their graphics settings.
Finally, a crash caused by reading invalid data from the CarCameras file has been corrected, and additional protections have been added to shared memory functions, further increasing overall system robustness.
Multiplayer and netcode: precision and visual cleanliness
Online car behaviour receives several meaningful improvements. A problem generating the error message "Failed to get control points ahead" for netcars on the Nordschleife Tourist layout — one of the simulator's most complex and intricate tracks — has been resolved. Additional position protections for netcars have also been introduced, reducing anomalous behaviour during online sessions.
On the visual side, disconnected cars no longer leave skidmarks on the track — a detail that may seem minor, but contributes significantly to the cleanliness and readability of the race environment, particularly on busy servers.
Rounding out the multiplayer chapter, collisions are now recorded in server results, providing a more complete and reliable record of what occurred during each session.
Physics and setups: tyres, GT3 class, and BMW M2
On the physics side, an issue with tyre contact patch force spikes has been corrected — that is, anomalous peaks in the forces acting on the point of contact between tyre and tarmac. This fix has a direct impact on simulation fidelity, making car behaviour more predictable and consistent, particularly under extreme load conditions.
Setup limits for GT3 cars have been unified, ensuring consistency across the various vehicles in the class and simplifying the management of custom setups for those participating in organised racing.
The BMW M2 Performance receives a setup and setup limits update, with the addition of adjustable ride height — an important feature for drivers looking to further fine-tune the car's behaviour across different track conditions.
Audio: BMW M8 Competition and Audi RS 3 rebuilt from scratch
The most exciting chapter of update 0.6.3 concerns the audio department, with extraordinary work on two cars that deserves a thorough description.
The BMW M8 Competition receives a completely new sound set, built from scratch with new audio samples. The work includes custom turbo sounds, updated dual clutch autocut timing, and revised autoblip and downshift times. The result is a more authentic and immersive sonic identity, one that convincingly conveys the character of the Bavarian sports saloon's powerful twin-turbocharged V8.
The Audi RS 3 also receives a complete and deep audio overhaul. The car's entire engine soundscape — both interior and exterior — has been remade from the ground up. The turbo benefits from updated sounds, custom backfires have been added, and autocut and autoblip times have been revised for a more true-to-life response. A transformation that will give owners of this car in the simulator a listening experience completely different from previous versions.
Minor but meaningful corrections
Closing out the changelog, two detail corrections that attentive drivers will appreciate. The VW Golf 8 GTI fixes an issue where the current gear was not displayed correctly on the car's virtual dashboard. The Ferrari 288 GTO corrects a typo in the speedometer — a small imperfection that is now finally eliminated, to the benefit of overall immersion.
Conclusion
Assetto Corsa EVO update 0.6.3 is a stabilisation and refinement patch that strikes with surgical precision at the critical points flagged by the community. The resolution of numerous crashes, multiplayer improvements, GT3 setup unification, and — above all — the extraordinary audio work on the BMW M8 Competition and Audi RS 3 make this update a significant step towards an ever more robust, authentic, and engaging simulation. Remember to update your Dedicated Server as well if you run online sessions.
