Project Motor Racing — PMR Test Centre: A Free Proving Ground for the Entire Community
The Project Motor Racing team has released the PMR Test Centre for free via the ModHub — a proving ground that began as an internal development space and has grown into a full racing complex available to drivers, enthusiasts, and modders alike. It is a gift to the community: to everyone who has raced, tested, reported bugs, created mods, shared feedback, and helped push the simulator forward.
From Internal Testing to a Community Playground
The PMR Test Centre was originally conceived as a practical, no-nonsense environment where the team could test surface materials, fine-tune Force Feedback, calibrate gamepad rumble, and study how each car behaved across changing grip levels. Less glamour, more substance: the goal was understanding whether a kerb felt right at 180 km/h. Over time, however, the idea grew, transforming that simple test area into a complete facility with multiple layouts, open areas, and enough variety to make it useful for both drivers and creators.
The facility is set near the village of Santa Giustina in Italy and is not intended to replace the great circuits already in the game — it serves a different purpose. It is a playground, a workshop, a blank canvas with racing lines. It can also be used for proper racing sessions, both in Single Player via a Race Weekend and in Multiplayer through Custom Lobbies.
Six Layouts, Six Purposes
The Test Centre offers six distinct layouts, each with its own characteristics and purpose:
- Racing Layout: a complete circuit with trackside details and proper flow
- Big Loop: built for high-speed running and oval-style testing
- Small Loop: for shorter, quicker sessions
- Small Needle Skidpad: dedicated to sliding, drifting, and experimenting
- Big Needle Route: combines a more traditional racing layout with a large oval-style banking section
- Playground: an open area where, with penalties turned off, players can drive freely across the entire complex, including the original surface test strips that started the whole project
A Resource for Modders
The Test Centre has also been designed with modders in mind. Alongside the release, the team will soon publish a "How to Build a Track" guide walking users through how the PMR Test Centre was created, including sample files that allow interested players to build the Racing Layout, modify parts of the facility, or use it as the foundation for entirely new layouts. A further signal that Project Motor Racing aims to be not just a finished product, but a living platform driven by its community.
The PMR Test Centre is available now for free on all platforms via the ModHub.
