Assetto Corsa EVO Update 0.5: The Next Big Step in Simulation Realism
Assetto Corsa EVO Update 0.5: The Next Big Step in Simulation Realism
Published: February 12, 2025
Kunos Simulazioni raises the bar once again with Update 0.5 for Assetto Corsa EVO, a massive update that brings the driving simulation to new levels of realism and immersion. Now available to all Early Access Program players, this update introduces 7 new cars, 2 brand new tracks, significant improvements to the daily ranked racing system, and a myriad of optimizations that make the driving experience even more authentic.
New Content: 7 Legendary Cars and 2 Iconic Circuits
Update 0.5 enriches the virtual garage with an eclectic selection of vehicles ranging from rally icons to modern hypercars:
Cars Added:
- Audi Sport quattro - The rally legend with differential locking system
- BMW M2 Coupe (G87) - 2 variants of the Bavarian compact sports car
- Caterham 485 CSR - 3 variants of the ultra-lightweight British roadster
- Dallara EXP - The high-performance track-focused single-seater
- Porsche 911 GT3 RS (992) - 2 variants of the Zuffenhausen icon
- Toyota AE86 Sprinter Trueno - 4 variants of the legendary drift king
- Volkswagen Golf GTI (Mk1) - The original hot hatch that defined an era
Tracks Added:
- Circuit Paul Ricard - 4 layouts of the French circuit with its iconic colored stripes
- Watkins Glen - 4 configurations of the legendary American track
Revolution in Daily Racing System
One of the most significant novelties concerns the SimGrid Daily Racing Portal. Now drivers can finally choose their own customized car for ranked races, provided it meets the mechanical requirements of the category. The livery selection system has been completely revised, allowing players to express their personality even in official competitions.
The connection flow has been moved to the in-game server browser, offering greater control over visual configuration and livery choice before hitting the track.
Physics and Handling: Realism Without Compromise
Kunos Simulazioni has worked intensively to bring the physics model to new levels of accuracy:
New Launch Control System: Completely redesigned, launch control now faithfully simulates real systems, with updates for all cars equipped with it.
Improved Differential Model:
- Support for differential locking system (debuting on the Audi Sport quattro)
- Support for solid rear axles with adjustable camber and toe
- Improved aero map interpolation for more nuanced behavior
Car-Specific Updates:
- BMW M4 GT3 Evo: revised aerodynamics and heave springs
- BMW M2 CS Racing: overall balance, new setups, improved aero map and added second mechanical variant with more powerful engine mapping (450hp)
- Ferrari 296 GTB: updated dampers, setup and e-diff
- Porsche 718 GT4 RS: improved balance and ABD
- Refined ESC calibration for modern sports cars
Dynamic Weather System: Completely revised dynamic weather/track simulation system and server-client synchronization - a process that will continue to be calibrated and refined in subsequent updates.
Intelligent Track Limits: Gain-Based Penalties
A revolutionary track limits evaluation system:
- Gain evaluation when cutting: if there's no advantage, no penalty
- If there's a gain, the driver has 500 meters to give back the time
- Dedicated widget to monitor time to give back in real-time
- Graduated penalties: warning, time penalty, drive-through, stop&go or disqualification depending on severity
- Ability to deviate from global track limit rules on a per-corner basis for more natural management (e.g., gravel traps on corner exits)
Graphics and Rendering: DLSS 4.5 and Enhanced Photorealism
DLSS 4.5 Update: Implemented the latest NVIDIA technology for optimal performance and visual quality.
Improved Rendering:
- Enhanced indirect rendering for cubemap shadows
- Implemented decals mip mapping, reducing flickering in the distance of tire marks, banners, etc.
Visual Customizations: Aesthetic updates for Audi RS 3, Audi RS 6 Avant, Alpine A110 S, Ferrari 296 GTB, Lamborghini Huracan STO, and Lotus Emira.
Free Camera Mode: Finally enabled to capture every angle of your driving experience.
User Interface: Cleaner, More Functional
New HUD and Updated UI:
- Gear widget indicators when ERS limits are reached
- Blue flags now functional
- Car electrics functions in the multi-function display (MFD)
- New pit stop controls page in MFD
- Tire compound indication in pit menu leaderboard
- Setup menu cosmetic updates
- Ability to hide UI overlays in main menu and paintshop
- HUD notifications priority settings
- Last selected car now persists across different menus
Audio: Total Immersion
Audio Improvements:
- Added bodywork damage audio
- Reworked launch control audio
- Updated sound spatialization for road cars' bodywork
- FMod file size optimizations
- Porsche 718 GT4: improved ramp and sound dynamics under load, adjusted fuel pump volume
- Ferrari SF25: volume tweaks
Multiplayer and Stability
Fixes and Improvements:
- Removed game mode selector page on startup - direct loading into Open Mode
- Career mode temporarily disabled
- Cars purchased in Career mode now appear in "My Cars" in Open Mode
- Fixed crash when restarting certain special events
- Ability to paste server credentials from clipboard
- Localization updates
Conclusion
Update 0.5 for Assetto Corsa EVO represents a monumental step forward in the title's evolution. With 7 new cars, 2 legendary circuits, revised physics, enhanced graphics with DLSS 4.5, and a more flexible ranked racing system, Kunos Simulazioni once again demonstrates why Assetto Corsa is considered the benchmark for driving simulations.
Now available on Steam in Early Access at $31.99 (20% discount from the launch price of $39.99).
