What is Sim Racing?

Sim racing, or racing simulation, is much more than a video game. It is a discipline that faithfully replicates the driving experience, requiring skills, strategy, and a deep understanding of driving dynamics. Simulators like Assetto Corsa, Assetto Corsa Competizione, and rFactor offer immersive simulations with accurately recreated tracks, weather conditions, and vehicles, making sim racing a true virtual sport.

2026 Season 1 Patch 3 Release Notes 2026 iRacing

The release of Patch 3 for 2026 Season 1 has brought a host of significant updates and fixes for iRacing enthusiasts. One of the primary features introduced is a new User Preference that allows participants to auto-launch a session they are registered for once it becomes available. This feature can be enabled in Settings > Preferences, simplifying the participation process for drivers.

For Steam users, the purchase flow has been improved, fixing navigation errors during payment and streamlining the purchasing process itself by eliminating the need to redirect members to the Legacy Membersite for transactions. Race servers have also seen updates, addressing an issue where some interim session results were not transmitted correctly to customer clients.

Physics adjustments have been made to prevent certain cones from bouncing excessively at select tracks. Additionally, AI racing skills have been enhanced, particularly in the NASCAR Cup Series Next Gen vehicles, thanks to a specialized training course. On the graphical front, Musco lighting systems near pit roads have been updated for various NASCAR tracks to ensure proper nighttime visibility.

Improvements extend to controls as well, with wheel definitions added for Simucube link port devices (v3 wheel bases). Various car models have also been updated, such as the GTP Class, whose wet tire treads have been adjusted to not wear at the same rate as dry tires. NASCAR Cup Series Next Gen cars have been updated to the latest 2026 engine and graphics packages, incorporating A-post flaps to enhance vehicle stability during flight.

Track updates are substantial, impacting circuits like Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, Daytona International Speedway, and Miami International Autodrome, where various exploits have been corrected to ensure a fairer and more balanced racing experience. This patch showcases the developers' commitment to delivering an increasingly realistic and engaging gameplay experience.
