F1 25 Patch 1.06: Revolution in VR Experience and AI Balancing
F1 25 Patch 1.06: Revolution in VR Experience and AI Balancing
A crucial update for the Formula 1 simulator that promises to fix the most reported issues by the community
Published on July 8, 2025
Main Highlights
- Performance balancing: Fixed the issue where AI was faster than the player on straights
- VR improvements: OpenVR SDK updated to reduce jitter and stuttering
- Automatic gearbox: Fixed overly early shifts in wet conditions
- Career mode fixes: Resolved bugs in contracts and driver hiring
Performance Issue Finally Addressed
EA Sports has finally tackled one of the most frustrating issues reported by F1 25 players: the unfair top speed advantage of the AI. After a thorough investigation, developers discovered that the player’s car underfloor was experiencing more drag against the asphalt compared to the AI cars.
What’s changed:
- Minor adjustments to front ride height and floor friction levels to reduce underfloor scraping affecting top speed
- Underfloor scraping is now identical between player and AI cars
- More balanced performance across all tracks and weather conditions
Revolution in VR Experience
PC users playing in virtual reality can finally breathe a sigh of relief. EA has updated the OpenVR SDK used for F1 25 to improve overall VR performance and reduce head-tracking issues causing jitter and stuttering.
Technical details:
- Full OpenVR SDK update
- Significant reduction in head-tracking issues
- Improved general performance in VR
- The dev team continues to investigate reports and welcomes further community feedback
Smarter Automatic Gearbox
After introducing improvements to the automatic gearbox in F1 25, players reported overly early shifts in wet conditions, likely as an overcompensation to this year’s changes.
Improvements include:
- Adjustments so that player cars now shift slightly higher under full throttle
- Better corner exit acceleration compared to AI
- More realistic wet condition performance
Career Mode Fixes
The patch includes several crucial fixes to Career Mode, resolving issues that could compromise the long-term gameplay experience.
Fixed bugs:
- Resolved an issue in new Driver Career saves where a team could hire three drivers
- Fixed a bug in new saves where the player could end up without a contract offer at season end
- Fixed a rare bug in My Team Career where a team couldn't hire enough drivers for the next season
Graphics and Audio Improvements
Gameplay fixes weren’t the only focus—technical enhancements were included as well:
Graphics updates:
- Updated AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) to version 3.1.4
- Improved visual quality in various Item Store elements
- Added Barilla branding to Bahrain, Imola, Monza, and Texas; Explora signage in Monaco, Canada, Belgium; and LVMH branding in Las Vegas
Audio and accessibility improvements:
- Added "Play Preview" button for Tinnitus Relief Filter in Accessibility Options
- Various fixes to engineer voice commands
Track Fixes
Fixed an issue in Bahrain where cars would briefly fall when exiting the garage, along with minor adjustments for a smoother race experience.
Other Notable Fixes
Braking Point Mode:
- The F1 Movie Preview chapter is now called "Free Preview"
- Fixed an issue where ERS collected by the first driver was transferred to the second in mid-chapter switches
Rewind Feature:
- Fixed multiple issues caused by using Rewind in the pit lane
- Prevents rare bugs like speed-limited cars after a red flag, loss of car control, and glitches after rapid Rewind presses
Availability and Installation
Patch v1.06 began rolling out at 10:00 UTC on Monday, July 7 and is available for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. To receive the update, make sure your console or PC is connected to the internet.
The Future of F1 25
The development team indicated that more improvements to AI racing are under consideration and appreciates player feedback. Gamers are encouraged to share their experiences on the dedicated EA forums.
Conclusion: Patch 1.06 marks a major step forward for F1 25, addressing critical community issues. With substantial improvements to AI balance, VR experience, and game stability, this update elevates the racing experience to a new level of realism and enjoyment.
